Medical Board suspends Dr Tareq Kamleh

14 Jul 2015

The Medical Board of Australia has confirmed it has suspended the registration of Dr Tareq Kamleh.

The role of the Medical Board of Australia is to protect the public and make sure only practitioners who provide safe and ethical care are registered to practise.

The Board has the power to take 'immediate action' to manage serious risk to public health and safety, pending other inquiries.

By law, taking ‘immediate action' is a three-step process. It involves a Board decision to propose to restrict registration in some way, an opportunity for the practitioner to respond, and then a final decision by the Board.

On 21 June 2015, the Board confirmed it had proposed to suspend the medical registration of Dr Kamleh.

Having completed the three-step ‘immediate action’ process, on 8 July 2015 the Board suspended his medical registration.

The register of practitioners reflects the current registration status of every registered health practitioner.

The regulatory principles that guide the Board’s decision-making are published online.

To protect the integrity of the regulatory process, the Board is not able to comment further at this time.
